Strong, sweet, sour and bitter – cocktail perfection

Strong, sweet, sour and bitter – cocktail perfection

I’ve been sacrificing my liver in a gallant effort to find blog-worthy cocktail recipes. Here’s a summery one which fits the bill – an Old Friend. It is barely adapted from an adapted recipe on diffordsguide.com; a marvellous resource where you list all the bottles in your bar and it tells you what drinks you can concoct. Quantities for two thirsty people.

  • 100ml Gin
  • 50ml Grapefruit Juice, freshly squeezed – preferably pink
  • 30ml Campari
  • 20ml St-Germain elderflower liqueur – I know the bottle is naff, but it does taste good in a cocktail

Shake over ice – for a really cold drink and to dilute it a little – and serve in a cocktail glass with a twist of grapefruit zest. Good in a tumbler over a large ice cube too.

Go on - you know you want to...
